You said you would address the potential positives and negatives of this law. However, you then proceeded to mention a huge list of potential negatives that would only affect the small number of people who would have to pay those higher taxes. This was expected coming from a biased economy youtube channel. However, there was no mention at all of how much is estimated to be gained to the government budget from this tax. What social and economic programs would be funded by that tax increase? What is the real percentage of people who would pay more versus what is the real percentage of people who would benefit from the money raised by those taxes? I heard somewhere that the government is planning to use those funds to better control the volatile real-estate market, which is one of the biggest concerns to Canadians today. It would have been good to know how they plan on doing that. Even with the bias, I expected a more informative video than this. I guess at least thank you for explaining what the law is.

If a solution can be found it would certainly involve limiting property ownership to one dwelling per household, zero foreign ownership of family homes, zero corporate ownership of family homes. Prices have gone crazy because houses are being sold like stocks.

Okay so fundamentally we need to fix our real estate issue in Canada and this will fundamentally have large consequences to those that use it. I personally think you need to have other things also change with respect to housing vacancy and pricing speculative real estate. Anyone saying this will make Canada less competitive isn't wrong but sort of missing forest for the trees. When you have higher housing costs than the USA but lower salaries and higher taxes, the housing costs are the crux. Literally me wanting to move out of Canada isn't due to taxes, it's due to housing costs. Paying me more and everyone else more wouldn't largely offset that since without fixing the issue prices would climb faster. When someone says it will cool real estate, I'm fine with it. I've been evicted three times in ten years (all N12 for moving into unit) , two times being likely in violation of ltb but fighting it sucks. When people are paying so much to housing of course our productivity will go down. Real estate rent is an economic rent and all potions of the economy are subject to it.

Who in their right mind would buy a home at an inflated price and then take a fixed payment variable mortgage while rates were near zero and the only possible direction for them to move was up? A lot of people need to come to terms with their own stupidity instead of just blaming the government for their problems.

This prime minister is lazy and spineless. Collecting taxes in theory would be find if citizens got quality services in return. Instead, this wasteful prime minister has done nothing but incur fumble after fumble and make the lives of Canadians worse off. I'd also like to mention that I'm so tired of the lack of creativity of this government. All they know to do is: a) introduce taxes or b) introduce tax free schemes or bank account. So unimaginative and useless. We are at a point where people would much rather buy single family homes than invest into a business in this country, and the smooth brained government has done nothing to inspire meaningful change. Utterly useless and absolutely hopeless. What a waste of the past 9 years. ggs to the middle class in Canada.
